PEFC (Program for the Endorsement of Forest Certification schemes) is an independent, non-profit, non-governmental organisation which promotes sustainable managed forests through independent third party certification. This offers customers and consumers the option to choose products from environmentally and socially responsible and economically viable forestry.

2. M1 (Emission Classification of Building Materials)
All Karelia products are in accordance with the M1 emission classification (low VOC, formaldehyde, etc).
The aim of the M1 emission classification is to enhance the development and use of low-emitting building materials. All lacquers Karelia uses are solvent free and do not contain formaldehyde.

3. ISO 14001 (Environmental Management Systems)
The manufacturer of Karelia timber floors is ISO 14001 certified.
This certification exists to help organisations minimise how their operations negatively affect the environment. In order for a company to be awarded an ISO 14001 certificate, they must be externally audited by and audit body that has been accredited by UKAS (United Kingdom Accreditation Service).
